Nitro Speed: The Free Typing Race Game Where Every Word Is Throttle
Nitro Speed is a free typing race game you play in your browser. Your car sits on the grid next to five rival drivers. When the five red lights go out, you type a short passage, and every correct letter pushes your car toward the checkered flag. A wrong key does nothing at all, so speed only counts when it's accurate. It's the idea that made car typing race games a classroom favourite, rebuilt as a single-player speed typing race with a career mode, a garage and a real nitro boost.
There's nothing to install and no account to create. Nitro Speed works on Chromebooks, Windows laptops, Macs and tablets, and it saves your progress, cash and cars in your browser. Open the page, press Race Now and you're on the grid in a few seconds. If you've been looking for an online typing race you can start right away, this is it.
How to play Nitro Speed
- Watch the lights. Five red lights come on one by one. When they all go out, the race starts and the clock begins.
- Type exactly what you see. Correct letters turn green and move your car. A wrong key flashes red, and your car doesn't move until you type the right letter.
- Press Space between words. When a word is finished, a small ␣ sign tells you to press Space.
- Fire your nitro. Press Enter once per race to boost through the rest of the current word.
- Finish first. Beat the fastest rival to win the track, unlock the next one and take the biggest cash prize.
A typing race game like Nitro Type, with no login
Many players know typing race games from Nitro Type, the multiplayer typing game from Teaching.com. If you like that style, Nitro Speed will feel familiar: cars on a track, a passage to type, and a race decided by words per minute. The difference is that Nitro Speed races you against AI rivals set to fixed speeds. Every track is a fair, repeatable typing race test, so you can watch your WPM climb from one attempt to the next. And you never need a login or a sign-up to play.
Nitro Speed is an independent game made by TypingProo. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Nitro Type or Teaching.com. Nitro Type is a trademark of its owner.

How nitro works
Every race gives you one nitro. Press Enter, or tap the NITRO button, and your car fires a blue flame and jumps through the rest of the word you're on. That's what makes it a real nitro typing race. Use it on a long word, or right after a mistake to get back into rhythm. Nitro moves your car, but the skipped letters don't count toward your WPM, so your speed score stays honest. On the last word of the passage, nitro takes you straight across the finish line.
Typing race tips to finish P1
- Accuracy first. A wrong key costs more time than typing a little slower, because the car stops until you fix it.
- Read one word ahead. The next word is highlighted, so your eyes can move on while your fingers finish.
- Keep a steady rhythm. The speedometer shows your live WPM over the last three seconds. Try to keep it level instead of bursting and stopping.
- Save nitro for a long word near the end, when a rival is just ahead of you.
- Use the home row. If you're still learning, rest your fingers on ASDF and JKL; and watch the screen, not the keyboard.
Is Nitro Speed a typing test too?
Yes. Your final WPM is worked out like a standard typing test: correct characters, including spaces, divided by five, per minute of race time. That makes every race a quick typing race test. For a formal score, take the 1-minute typing test or the full typing speed test and compare the results.
Made for students, teachers and families
The passages are short, friendly and written in plain English. There's no chat, no usernames and no strangers on the track. That makes Nitro Speed a good fit for a typing class warm-up, homework practice or a quick break. Classmates can race the same track and compare WPM. Progress stays on the device, so nobody has to share an email address.
